Shahrim Tamrin is a journalist based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He has nearly 16 years’ experience in Journalism and Communications with mainstream & online publications, corporate sector, sports body and inter-government agency. He started career as a Sports Journalist with theSunDaily in 1997 before moving to Asian Football Confederation and United Nations. He made the comeback into journalism with The Malay Mail. Later, he became News Journalist and automotive writer in the New Straits Times, Berita Harian and theSunDaily. At present, Shahrim is a guest columnist & freelance journalist writing for various publications including digital news outlets which include ******, ******, ****** and ******. Shahrim was awarded with theSunDaily Editorial Excellence Award in 2015 & 2016. In November 2016, he received a special Award from Asean NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) for his wide range coverage of road safety efforts and issues in South East Asia. He provided input to the Special Envoy for Road Safety of United Nations in April 2017. In August 2018, he was appointed by the Minister of Transport Malaysia as part of the Recommendations Review Panel (RRP) following the highest casualties ever recorded in a single road crash at Genting Highlands in 2013. Shahrim was a recipient of a 2018 International Centre for Journalist and World Health Organisation (ICFJ-WHO) Safety Reporting Fellowship to attend the 13th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion in Bangkok, Thailand and 2020 Road Safety Fellowship to attend the 3rd Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Stockholm, Sweden. Shahrim has successfully undergone training under the ICFJ and WHO 2020 Road Safety Training of Trainers programme. He sat on the Board of Directors of Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) from January 2019 until January 2022, the only Journalist appointed to the Board.
