Burak Utucu

I'm Burak Ütücü, a journalist specializing in investigative reporting, crisis journalism, and video storytelling. I began my career in 2015 at Hürriyet Newspaper's Web TV department as an intern and have since worked across both national and international platforms, covering key issues in domestic and foreign policy.

I hold a journalism degree from Anadolu University and studied Political Science and Journalism at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland as part of the Erasmus program. Earlier, I studied Radio, Television, Cinema, and Media at İzmir University of Economics. I’m also pursuing a degree in International Relations via distance education. I speak English fluently, which has allowed me to gain professional experience abroad—including a video editing internship at Videoplugger in London.

Since 2019, I have worked as a freelance journalist with outlets such as Al Jazeera, Balkan Insight, Inside Turkey, Journo, and NewsLabTurkey, focusing on digital journalism, societal issues, and international affairs. In 2020, I co-authored the IPI Turkey Digital Media Report: ‘The New Mainstream’ Is Rising (And It Seeks Support) with journalist Emre Kızılkaya for the International Press Institute.

Between 2021 and 2023, I worked as a video journalist at The Independent Turkish, where I produced video reports, conducted exclusive interviews, and managed the outlet’s Instagram account. Before that, I was a news editor for Kapsül, writing concise updates on world news and economics.

In 2020, I launched Observe Turkey, a digital platform that brings together young journalists and independent reporting. Currently, I serve as a Special Correspondent at Euronews' Istanbul Bureau, where I continue to produce in-depth field reports and multimedia content. I'm passionate about telling compelling stories with accuracy, clarity, and creativity.
